Singapore, the Unique Country

Stand on the step of the Earth Garden with bared feet. It’s not Paris, nor is it Tokyo or New York. You might be threading through mansions of the metropolitan, but 10 minutes later green and luxuriant trees would come into your eyes. This is Singapore, the unique country.

Singapore has been described as a prosperous metropolitan. It’s the integration of rich culture, languages, art and architecture.

The building overhang of Chinatown is just the Nanyang version of the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival. With the help of sound, light and electric technology, the three-layer narrow wooden building at No.48, Bao Ta Street shows the hard life of Chinatown’s Chinese people in 1950s. It records the struggle course of Singapore Chinese. Every corridor may have its story, and each old clothes may have its past. Walking along the street, people are full of emotion. If you hear the Sanskrit song, smell India spices, and see Indian women who have a red point between their eyebrows walking in a Indian-style street, you must be at the street of Little India Area. You must feel as if you went abroad.

The first impression Singapore leaves to people must be a garden city. However, as you walk past the Raffle Hotel, church, mosque, temple and even small old shops, you would gradually find another feature of Singapore: Although cities there are highly modernized, Singaporean’s respect for old buildings has been revealed by streets and markets.

Enjoy the boundlessness

Even if you could be adapted to life of different classes, you must be surprised by the pleasant experience brought by the luxury Marina Bay Sands. It attracts you with luxuriant hotel, complete exhibition facility, theater, top-ranking shopping and dining place. The most wonderful place was the “Hanging Pool”. This pool, 83 huge flower pots and the wide sightseeing platform make up a real “Hanging Garden”. It’s not only an architecture design but also a small but complete city. Two axes show the orientation; the pedestrian street is the focus of the city life; there are many project surrounding them. They shape the entrance of the city together. Maybe this is the metropolitan that suits human inhabitants.

I had seen Music Fountain in China, but I never did it so formally. It was as formal as listening to a concert. There was fire of 12 m, fountain of 10 m, dazzling laser, music, and naughty monkey Kiki that went through smoke and smog and between water and land. When its dream lover Princess Pearl sang a song, it turned passionate and intoxicated.

Modern Era

The building of the National Center for the performing arts has the shape of double shells which looks like a durian without peal. The outer wall of the building use glass as its material to create a sense of space and transparency. The coverage of the center iron frame uses 7,000 pieces of aluminium sunshading sheets and Hollow sandwich glass. This building is the most characteristic mark in the sky of Singapore.

The deeper the night is, the more beautiful Clarke Quay is. The light is turned on, and lots of people near the wharf. Seafood Hotels are full of people. Ecological night club and the flea market come alive when the night approaches. She stood at the bank of Singapore River, and the luxury scene was still in her mind. The ceiling looks like huge mushrooms and it uses renewable and recyclable plastic film. It can keep out wind and rain, and reduce the sun’s radiation. The lotus-shape vent is fan. Based on the Venturi effect, it makes the air flow accelerate naturally. Thus, the temperature is low even without air conditioner. Some people take pictures at night in the same angle as they do in daytime. They find those taken at night are more beautiful. The beauty of night is not easy to understand.

Belle House/ I have enjoyed all the views during my tour of Singapore. However, it’s hard to describe them with words. When you go there, you will find it is worth visiting.

Another view came into my eye. I took pictures crazily. The building is so high that I found it hard to photograph the whole building. 

Architecture is a kind of art, but where do its ideas come from?

Sometimes, we just need light and shadow; color is not that important.
